What you need to know
The written knowledge test for your Idaho instruction permit or driver’s license will be based on the information contained in the 2024 Idaho Driver’s Manual. It will consist of 40 multiple-choice questions of which you’ll need to correctly answer at least 34 to pass. A portion of the test focuses on road signs and driving situations, covered in chapters 3,4, and 5 of the driver’s manual. This DMV practice test is devoted to practicing these specific type of questions. The Idaho graduated licensing system requires that you hold your permit for at least six months before you may test for your license if you are under 17. To get your permit, you’ll need to pass the knowledge exam, a vision test, and provide proof you’ve completed a driver’s education course. Once you meet these qualifications, you will be able to take a driving skills exam to receive your driver’s license. All of the questions on this test are based on images, which you should be able to correctly identify and explain if you have studied the manual sufficiently. This type of practice test is extremely important as you may also be asked to identify these types of signs or find yourself in these road situations during your driving skills exam. Therefore, this gives you a unique chance to prepare.
